Hi, I'm Karen Tucker. My journey in touch therapy began when I was a child, and started giving intuitive massage to friends and family.
An important moment came the day after my father suffered a stroke, as I climbed into his hospital bed and softly massaged his right side and head. Later, he told me how scared he was before I massaged him and how he'd been unable to ask for help due to his physical condition.
My touch eased his fear, gave him hope, and made him feel loved. Though I didn't know it at the time, this was the moment when I realized the power of massage therapy for physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
My professional training in massage therapy comes from McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, CA. I continue to study there and in many other places as I believe that we are all students first and our learning journeys are never over.
I work primarily with Swedish massage because of its versatility. In a typical session, I will interweave Swedish, Shiatsu, Acupressure, and even Deep Tissue. My dedicated study of somatics and energy work, and interest in holistic medicine, means that I work on your entire being during our time together: physical, emotional, and spiritual.
My lifelong study of dance, as well as my experience as a yoga teacher, also strongly influence my sessions. As a yogi I have authored the book Blessed to Serve: Lessons Learned and Stories shared from Torch-Bearers of Modern Yoga, and have appeared in Yoga Journal and Elephant Journal.
As a massage therapist, my main objective in each session is to listen deeply to your body and help to facilitate transformation into your best self.
